Chancelloria irregularis was named by Qian (1989). Its type specimen is Nanjing Institute of Geology and Palaeontology, Academia Sinica, coll. MS-36-c, no. 84901 and is a mold.
It was recombined as Chancelloriella irregularis by Demidenko (2000), Gravestock et al. (2001).
