Echinochiton dufoei
Taxonomy
Echinochiton dufoei was named by Pojeta et al. (2003). Its type specimen is BMNH 1996.045.01 (articulated specimen) and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Top of quarry, north side of Wisconsin State Rte 81, 6.4 km west of Rte 213, which is in a Blackriveran carbonate limestone in the Grand Detour Formation of Wisconsin. It is the type species of Echinochiton.

J., Jr. Pojeta et al. 2003 | Echinochiton having posterior lateral spines recurved toward the tail plate; anterior lateral spines not recurved, but project normal to body length. Width and length of intermediate plates subequal. Head plate known only in cross section, tail plate rounded posteriorly, intermediate valves pyramidal and come to a dorsal point posteriorly. Known ornament consists of growth lines on the plates and lateral spines. |
