Taxonomy
Nematosalpinx hormathodes was named by Rigby et al. (1994). Its type specimen is SB3-1WA-89 and is not a trace fossil. Its type locality is Heceta Island, which is in a Ludlow carbonate limestone in the Heceta Formation of Alaska.
