Taxonomy
Aphelophis talpivorus was named by Cope (1873). Its type specimen is AMNH No. 1598, a set of vertebrae (three vertebrae), and it is a 3D body fossil.
It was recombined as Calamagras talpivorus by Gilmore (1938), Rage (1984).
