Aboculus robustus

Taxonomy
Aboculus robustus was named by Wernlund (1977). It is not extant. It is considered to be a form taxon. Its type specimen is holotype TTU-N09/6 7, paratypes TTU-N09/68-71, TTU-NlO/28. Its type locality is Pine Springs area, Guadalupe Mountains, which is in a Capitanian basinal (carbonate) floatstone in the Bell Canyon Formation of Texas. It is the type species of Aboculus.

Wernlund 1977Sclerite in the form of a hook; shank robust, moderate length, straight, broadly curving at base to join spear, strongly elliptical but variable diameter, usually with one small spine projecting toward spear at 2/3 length from base, constricted above lateral spine; spear large, long, straight to recurved; top of hook in the form of a knob, formed by flaring of shank above constriction, area of knob opposite the spear (back) characterized by a pair of curved ridges that lose their identity as they extend into the constriction of shank, sides of knob marked by shallow trough-shaped depressions.
