Costasaurus rusconi

Taxonomy
Salamandra rusconi was named by Costa (1851). Its type specimen is UNIP specimen and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Civita di Pietraroja (upper plattenkalk), which is in an Albian basinal (carbonate) mudstone/wackestone in Italy. It is the type species of Costasaurus.

It was synonymized subjectively with Polysemia apennina by D'Erasmo (1914); it was considered a nomen dubium by Estes (1983); it was recombined as Costasaurus rusconi by Barbera and Macuglia (1988) and Barbera and Macuglia (1991).
