Taxonomy
Tomiopsis rarus was named by Archbold and Thomas (1986). Its type specimen is UWA 34319 and is a cast. Its type locality is Glendevon Homestead, Woolaga Creek, Irwin River District, Perth Basin, which is in an Artinskian shoreface sandstone in the High Cliff Sandstone Formation of Australia.
