Neochonetes (Nongtaia) taoni was named by Archbold (1999). Its type specimen is NMV P120374, a valve (Dorsal valve), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Khao Nong Ta On, Rat Buri, which is in a Roadian coastal siliciclastic in Thailand.
