Taxonomy
Balatonites oyamai was named by Bando (1964). Its type specimen is IGPS 62558 and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Iwaida, Watanoha-cho, Ishinomaki City, Miyagi Prefecture, which is in a Pelsonian marine shale in the Rifu Formation of Japan.
