Taxonomy
Promytilus ensiformis was named by Li and Ding (1982). Its type specimen is Nanjing Inst Geol Min Res HI-2554, a valve (Right valve, internal mold), and it is a mold. Its type locality is Jianxi, Gao'an County, which is in a Wuchiapingian marine horizon in the Loping Formation of China.
