Taxonomy
Clisocolus was named by Gabb (1869) [Sepkoski's age data: K Turo-u K Maes Sepkoski's reference number: 159].

It was assigned to Isocardiidae by Russell and Landes (1937); to Mactromyidae by Cox et al. (1969), Vokes (1980), Tashiro and Kozai (1982); and to Veneroida by Sepkoski (2002).
