Taxonomy
Gymnites petilus was named by Wang and Chen (1979). Its type specimen is NIGP 34043 and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Wenquan IV-P13F10-1, Xinghai County, which is in an Aegean/Bithynian marine horizon in the Gulangdi Formation of China.
