Taxonomy
Costatumulus prolongata was named by Waterhouse (1986). Its type specimen is UQL 74015 and is a mold. Its type locality is UQ L4560, Buffel Hill, Cracow Homestead, which is in an Artinskian coastal siliciclastic in the Buffel Formation of Australia.
It was synonymized subjectively with Costatumulus farleyensis by Briggs (1998).
