Bathyurellus affinis was named by Poulsen (1937). Its type specimen is MMH 3705, a pygidium, and it is a 3D body fossil.
It was corrected as Bathyurellus affine by Poulsen (1937); it was recombined as Uromystrum affine by Boyce (1983) and Fortey and Bruton (2013).
