Taxonomy
Istiophorus calvertensis was named by Berry (1917). Its type specimen is no specimen number listed (rostrum) and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Tar Bay, which is in a Tortonian/Serravallian marine horizon in the Eastover Formation of Virginia.
