Metoptoma texana was named by Yochelson (1960). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is USNM701k, Wolf Camp Hills, Glass Mountains, which is in an Asselian reef, buildup or bioherm limestone in the Neal Ranch Formation of Texas.
