Stenopora parallela was named by Crockford (1945). Its type specimen is Sydney Univ 2437 and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Huon Road, Mount Wellington, which is in a Kungurian marine horizon in the Grange Mudstone Formation of Australia.
