Proxestops silberlingii

Taxonomy
Harpagosaurus silberlingii was named by Gilmore (1938). Its type specimen is USNM 13877, a maxilla (left maxilla with teeth), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Silberling Quarry, which is in a Torrejonian terrestrial horizon in the "Fort Union" (= Lebo) Formation of Montana.

It was recombined as Paraprionosaurus silberlingii by Estes (1983); it was recombined as Proxestops silberlingii by Sullivan (1991).

  • Proxestops gastrodon was named by Bartels (1988).

    It was synonymized subjectively with Proxestops silberlingii by Sullivan (1991).
  • Peltosaurus jepseni was named by Gilmore (1942). Its type specimen is Princeton Mus. no. 14565, a maxilla (incomplete right maxillary bearing 9 teeth, posterior portion of the parietal, and one dermal scute), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Princeton Quarry, which is in a Tiffanian terrestrial horizon in the Fort Union Formation of Wyoming.

    It was synonymized subjectively with Pancelosaurus piger by Meszoely (1970); it was recombined as Proxestops jepseni by Gauthier (1982), Bryant (1989); it was synonymized subjectively with Proxestops silberlingii by Sullivan (1991).
  • Proxestops jepsoni was named by Gauthier (1982) [PU 14565, originally named Peltosaurus jepsoni by Gilmore, 1942, p. 161, fig. 4.]. Its type specimen is PU 14565 and is a 3D body fossil.

    It was synonymized subjectively with Proxestops silberlingii by Sullivan (1991).
