Aulosteges grangeri was named by Grabau (1931). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Jisu Honguer 1211, Orthotichia Bed, which is in a Capitanian carbonate limestone in the Yihewusu Formation of China.
It was recombined as Limbella grangeri by Clapham (2015).
