Coalcomana was named by Harris and Hodson (1922) [Sepkoski's age data: K Albi-l K Ceno]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Caprinidae by Palmer (1928), Steuber (2002); to Hippuritoida by Sepkoski (2002); to Coalcomaninae by Bouchet et al. (2010); and to Caprinuloideidae by Skelton (2013).
