It was reranked as the order Brisingida by Blake (1989); it was reranked as the unranked clade Brisingida by Gale (2011) and Mah and Blake (2012).

It was assigned to Forcipulatida by Fisher (1928) and Spencer and Wright (1966); to Forcipulatida by Gale (2011); and to Forcipulatacea by Blake (1989) and Mah and Blake (2012).
