Taxonomy
Pentasteria (Pentasteria) longispina was named by Hess (1968). Its type specimen is Holotype M 8748, Naturhistorisches Museum Basel and is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Pentasteria (Archastropecten) longispina by Gale (2011).
