Asketomorpha was named by Hoare et al. (1989) [Sepkoski's age data: C Serp-l Sepkoski's reference number: 879]. Its type is Asketomorpha grandis.

It was assigned to Grammysiidae by Hoare et al. (1989); and to Pholadomyoida by Sepkoski (2002).
