Paraleptodus wuchangensis was named by Lee and Gu (1980). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Tumenling, Wuchang County, which is in a Wordian/Capitanian marine horizon in the Tumenling Formation of China.
It was recombined as Leptodus wuchangensis by Clapham (2015).
