Limopsis retifera was named by Semper (1861) [TYPE LOCALITY: Oligocene, Germany; NOT L. (L.) retifera Marwick, New Zealand.]. It is not a trace fossil.
It was recombined as Cosmetopsis retifera by Rovereto (1898); it was recombined as Pectunculina retifera by Moths (2000); it was recombined as Limopsis (Pectunculina) retifera by Schnetler and Palm (2008).
