Taxonomy
Domatoceras simplex was named by Hyatt (1893). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Old Military Crossing, Whiskey Creek, Wichita River, which is in an Artinskian coastal siliciclastic in the Clyde Formation of Texas.
It was recombined as Stearoceras simplex by Miller and Youngquist (1949).
