Taxonomy
Metacoceras mammiferum was named by Miller (1945). It is a cast. Its type locality is PU3, Apache Canyon, Sierra Diablo, which is in a Kungurian shallow subtidal limestone in the Bone Spring Formation of Texas.
It was recombined as Foordiceras mammiferum by Miller and Youngquist (1949).
