Taxonomy
Ammonites actaeon was named by d'Orbigny (1844). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Les Cottards, nr Saint George de Poisieux, which is in a Pliensbachian marine horizon in France.

It was recombined as Cycloceras actaeon by Futterer (1893); it was recombined as Acanthopleuroceras actaeon by Meister (1986); it was recombined as Tropidoceras actaeon by Spath (1928), Bremer (1965), Frebold (1970), Smith and Tipper (1996).
