Yacarerani was named by Novas et al. (2009).
It was assigned to Notosuchia by Novas et al. (2009), Iori and Carvalho (2011) and Bronzati et al. (2012); to Ziphosuchia by Turner and Sertich (2010) and Sertich and O'Connor (2014); to Sphagesauridae by Pol et al. (2014) and Martinelli et al. (2018); and to Sphagesauridae by Ruiz et al. (2021).
