Taxonomy
Acanthopecten onukii was named by Murata (1964). Its type specimen is IGPS 85745, a valve (left valve), and it is a mold. Its type locality is Shigeji-zawa IGPS Mi117, Kami-yasse, Kesennuma City, which is in a Roadian marine slate in the Kanokura Formation of Japan.
