Pecten fittoni was named by Morris (1845). It is a mold. Its type locality is Mount Wellington (Strzelecki coll), which is in an Artinskian marine siliciclastic in Australia.
It was recombined as Deltopecten fittoni by Laseron (1910); it was recombined as Aviculopecten fittoni by Wass and Banks (1971); it was recombined as Morrisipecten fittoni by Muromtseva and Guskov (1984); it was recombined as Altaipecten fittoni by Yang and Chen (1985); it was recombined as Undopecten fittoni by Waterhouse (1982) and Waterhouse (2001).
