Taxonomy
Tomistoma cairense was named by Müller (1927). It is not extant. Its type locality is Mokattam, which is in a Lutetian carbonate limestone in the Mokattam Formation of Egypt.

It was considered a nomen dubium by Jouve et al. (2008).
