Taxonomy
Atlantosuchus coupatezi was named by Buffetaut and Wouters (1979). Its type specimen is Wouters collection, housed in the IRSNB, Brussels, a mandible (mandibular symphysis), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Atlantosuchus coupatezi type locality, which is in a Danian marine phosphorite in Morocco.

Jouve et al. 2008Extremely elongate snout, representing about 79 per cent of total skull length; lateral margin of premaxilla straight (not laterally curved), and not differentiated from lateral margin of maxilla; small premaxillary-nasal contact: nasals do not penetrate between posterodorsal premaxillary processes; lateral margin of external nares high and narrow; nasals unfused, making a strong dorsal boss anterior to the orbits; lacrimal wellextended anteriorly, making a long contact with the nasal; retroarticular process extremely long, and the angular does not reach posterior tip of retroarticular process.
