Taxonomy
Amaltheus margaritatus was named by de Montford (1808). Its type specimen is BMNH 37039 and is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Ammonites margaritatus by d'Orbigny (1844), d'Orbigny (1850) and Owen (1856).
