Taxonomy
Ammonites stokesi was named by Sowerby (1818). Its type specimen is OUM.J2248 and is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Amaltheus stokesi by Howarth (1955), Howarth (1956), Meister (1986), Blau and Meister (1991), Smith and Tipper (1996), Géczy and Meister (1998), Meister and Friebe (2003), Nakada et al. (2021).
