Stegocoelia (Vebericochlis) maclayi was named by Licharev (1967). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Dastarsay Section, Beds 3-5, Karachatyr Range, which is in an Asselian shallow subtidal limestone in Kyrgyzstan.
It was recombined as Vebericochlis maclayi by Mazaev (2002).
