Pamizinsaurus was named by Reynoso (1997). Its type is Pamizinsaurus tlayuanensis.
It was assigned to Sphenodontidae by Reynoso (2000), Apesteguía and Novas (2003); to Sapheosauridae by Reynoso and Cruz (2014); to Sphenodontinae by Cau et al. (2014); and to Neosphenodontia by Herrera-Flores et al. (2018).
