Taxonomy
Neoschizodus thaynesianus was named by Newell and Boyd (1975). Its type specimen is AMNH 29158, a valve (Left valve), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is AMNH319A, Midland, which is in a Smithian carbonate limestone in the Thaynes Formation of Utah.
