Spiriferina (Mentzelia) balatonica was named by Bittner (1890). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Felso-Ors (Budapest coll), which is in a Pelsonian carbonate limestone in the Recoaro Formation of Hungary.
It was recombined as Mentzelia balatonica by Palfy (2003).
