Xihaina aquilonia

Taxonomy
Xihaina aquilonia was named by Gao and Hou (1995). Its type specimen is IVPP V10030, a partial skeleton (incomplete skeleton with disarticulated skull elements and mandible, vertebral column (15 dorsals + 2 sacrals + 2.5 caudals), nearly complete pelvis, and a righ), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is SCDP surface collections, Bayan Mandahu/near Bayan Mandahu, which is in a Campanian eolian sandstone/mudstone in the Djadokhta Formation of China.

Hou 1995Distinguished from Anchaurosaurus gilmorei and other iguanids by the combination of the following character states: maxilla and dentary short, deep, and lightly built; marginal teeth having slender and anteroposteriorly compressed shafts; tooth crowns flared and possibly multicusped; anterior part of Meckelian canal closed by complete fusion of dentary tube; anterior mylohyoid foramen widely separated from anterior inferior alveolar foramen; angular greatly reduced and restricted to ventral broder of mandibular ramus.
