ReferenceDiagnosis
K. -Q. Gao and L. A. Nessov 1998Hodzhakulia magna is distinguished from non-amphisbaenian squamates by a suite of derived character states: maxilla and dentary short and deep, with no more than ten tooth positions; subdental shelf lost; marginal teeth replaced posteromedially with small resorption pits present; great reduction of splenial. Distinguished from oligodontosaurids in having high-crowned marginal teeth and open Meckelian canal; and distinguished from rhineurids and other known fossil and living amphisbaenids by having blunt, chisel-like tooth crowns, weak mandibular symphysis, and retention of splenial
