Taxonomy
Montsecosuchus was named by Buscalioni and Sanz (1988). Its type is Alligatorium depereti. It was considered monophyletic by Karl et al. (2006).
It was assigned to Atoposaurides by Buscalioni and Sanz (1990); to Atoposauridae by Buscalioni and Sanz (1988), Karl et al. (2006); and to Neosuchia by Bronzati et al. (2012), Tennant et al. (2016).
