Taxonomy
Utahacanthus guntheri was named by Schultze (1990). Its type specimen is BYUVP 10279, a skeleton, and it is a compression preserving soft parts. Its type locality is Traverse Range, Tidwell loc 2, Lehi, which is in a Bashkirian marginal marine shale in the Manning Canyon Formation of Utah. It is the type species of Utahacanthus.
