Glyptogenys ornata

Taxonomy
Glyptogenys ornata was named by Gao and Fox (1991). Its type specimen is UALVP 29735, a mandible (anterior part of left dentary bearing 12 well-preserved teeth), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Irvine microvertebrate site, which is in a Judithian terrestrial horizon in the Dinosaur Park Formation of Canada. It is the type species of Glyptogenys.

Fox 1991A teiid lizard that differs from other fossil and recent teiids in having the following combination of characters: dentary deep, massively built and heavily ornamented below inferior alveolar foramina in at least adult individuals; subdental shelf deep and robust; teeth subpleurodont, with lateral parapet about half of crown height; crowns mostly bicuspid with main cusp in posterior position on crown and anterior cusp low and rounded; anterior teeth unicuspid and more nearly conical; tooth bases compressed anteroposteriorly, with thick, ring-like basal deposit of cementum.
