Taxonomy
Rhombopora mammillata was named by Bretnall (1926). Its type specimen is GSWA 10930c specimen 2 and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Gascoyne River District (GSWA collection), which is in a Sakmarian coastal horizon in the Callytharra Formation of Australia.

It was recombined as Rhabdomeson mammillata by Crockford (1944); it was recombined as Rhabdomeson mammillatus by Yang and Xia (1974); it was recombined as Rhabdomeson mammillatum by Sakagami (1966), Sakagami (1970), Sakagami (1973), Xia (1986), Sakagami (2000).
