Ammonites bechei was named by Sowerby (1821).

It was recombined as Aegoceras bechei by Wright (1882); it was recombined as Becheiceras bechei by Blau and Meister (1991), Alkaya and Meister (1995); it was recombined as Liparoceras (Becheiceras) bechei by Imlay (1968), Frebold (1970), Meister (1986), Smith and Tipper (1996), Géczy and Meister (1998), Rakús and Guex (2002), Meister and Friebe (2003), Hillebrandt (2006), Geczy and Meister (2007), Meister et al. (2011).
