Lissochonetes magnus was named by Afanasjeva (1977). Its type specimen is PIN 2835/184 and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Urul'tun River Outcrop 429, Kolyma Massif, which is in a Cisuralian marine siliciclastic in the Russian Federation.
