Shokawa was named by Evans and Manabe (1999).
It was assigned to Hyphalosauridae by Gao and Fox (2005), Gao and Ksepka (2008), Matsumoto and Evans (2010); to Choristodera by Evans and Manabe (1999), Matsumoto et al. (2013), Matsumoto et al. (2019); and to Allochoristodera by Dong et al. (2020).
