Diagnosis
ReferenceDiagnosis
M. -C. Buchy et al. 2005A polycotylid plesiosaurs differing from all other polycotylid taxa in the following combination of features: the rostrum represents about 55% of skull length. The rostrum is hemicylindrical over its rostral half. The postorbital segment is subrectangular in dorsal view. The temporal bar is as high as the orbit. The suspensorium is vertical. The squamosal forms a dorsal shelf overhanging the atlas and axis. A paired frontal foramen is present and lies level with the rostral margin of the orbits. It is bordered laterally by the prefrontal. The facial process of the premaxilla regularly tapers caudally, contacting the parietal level with the caudal margin of the external naris. The teeth are unifrom in size and slender (the estimated ratio of the crown to its basal diameter is 5), smooth except for a possible faint rostral carina (the tooth shape may be a juvenile feature). The tooth formula is: 5 premaxillary, 10 maxillary, 15 dentary teeth inclding 9 symphysial teeth. There are 25 cervical, 3 pectoral, and about 1 dorsal vertebrae. In its cranial portion, the interclavicle is expanded laterally, possessing wings that contact the clavicle. The interclavicle is restricted caudally to a rod-like median process.
