Terebratula michelini was named by L'Eveille (1835).

It was recombined as Orthis michelini by De Konick (1843), De Verneuil and De Keyserling (1845), McCoy (1854), Semenow (1854), Davidson (1860), Davidson (1862) and Meek (1877); it was recombined as Orthis (Rhipidomella) oweni by Winchell (1865); it was recombined as Dalmanella michelini by Fliegel (1901); it was recombined as Orthis (Schizophoria) michelini by Mansuy (1913); it was recombined as Rhipidomella oweni by Weller (1914); it was recombined as Rhipidomella michelini by Ustritsky and Chernyak (1963) and Yang (1984).
